Another issue I’ve encountered lately:
The importing process tests if product name already exists and will skip if it does. Now the system allows same names for products and categories, just the id, slug and sku must be unique. Now maybe for product names they rarely same, but categories and variations may have same name.
Example of the problem I encountered:
Importing different variations to a product. 2 variations have same name but different options inside. The import skips the second as duplicate. Just to explain why the same name, we have sizes for product, for instance 10mg, we have another 10mg which is a free sample. Variation names are given by attribute names hence this pickle..
IMHO relying on names is a risky business..
What do you think?Hi Dima, thanks for raising this. To clarify both of the rows being imported are Variations you are merging changes to or different Product Types? If you can raise this as a Support ticket you can attach a sample import file for me to reproduce and get this fixed.
Re: the duplicate checking we do a few different checks for duplicates, first checking the Product ID, then Product Name and finally SKU detail, if all of those fail and we are importing a new Product only then that Product gets generated, if we are merging and all of those checks fail we do not merge the Product changes. I’ll need to look at how we handle the Product Name column for Variations when merging as this seems to be where you have run into trouble. Happy to look at it with you further as well as other topics that I’m responding to now 🙂

Hi Dima, I’ve created a Trello card to look at this further and will schedule in time to come up with a solution for this situation; prefix to set whether it is the Attribute name/slug/ID, etc.
