How to change the text on your WooCommerce login page

A login page that says “Email Address” when your customers sign in with a username, or “Log In” when your store says “Sign in” everywhere else, feels off-brand. Custom Login for WooCommerce lets you reword the main text on the login form, so the page sounds like your store.

This article covers the six text settings on the Design tab: the page heading, the email and password labels, the Remember Me label, the login button, and the lost password link. Your logo, colours, and the promo panel have their own settings. For colours, see how to change your login page colours. For the promo panel, see how to set up the promo panel.

The login page text settings

Here’s what each setting changes and what the login page shows until you change it. The settings are listed in the order they appear on the Design tab.

SettingWhere it appearsDefault text
Login HeadingThe large heading above the form. It also starts the browser tab title, before your site name.Log In
Email LabelThe label above the first field.Email Address
Password LabelThe label above the password field.Password
Remember Me LabelThe text next to the checkbox that keeps customers signed in.Remember Me
Login Button TextThe text on the button that submits the form.Log In

Step 1: Open the Design tab

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Custom Login in your WordPress admin.
  2. Click the Design tab.

The tab opens with the Logo & Heading section at the top. The Form Labels section sits further down, below the colour settings.

Step 2: Change the login heading

  1. Find the Login Heading field under Logo & Heading.
  2. Replace the text with your own heading, for example Welcome back.

Step 3: Change the form labels

  1. Scroll down to the Form Labels section.
  2. Replace the text in any of the five fields you want to change.

The table above shows what each field changes and what it shows by default. Fields you leave alone keep their current text. If you clear a field and save, the login page uses that setting’s default text.

Step 4: Save your changes

Click Save Settings at the top right of the page. The button stays visible on the Template, Design, and Content tabs, so you can save from any of them.

Step 5: Check your login page

  1. Log out, or open a private browser window.
  2. Visit yourstore.com/login to see your new text.
  3. Check the browser tab title. It starts with your Login Heading.

Troubleshooting

My new text doesn’t show on the login page
First check that you clicked Save Settings after editing. Then reload yourstore.com/login in a private browser window. If you use a caching plugin or a site-wide cache, clear that cache too.
A field went back to its default text after I cleared it
Type your own wording into the field instead of leaving it empty. When a field is empty, the login page shows the default text for that setting.
My formatting or HTML doesn’t appear in a label
These settings accept plain text only. The plugin removes HTML tags when you save, so bold, links, and line breaks don’t show. Reword the text in plain words instead.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the error messages on the login page?
No. The Design tab only covers the six texts in this article. Messages such as the one customers see after a wrong password aren’t editable from the settings.
Does the Email Label limit what customers can type?
No. The label is only the wording above the field. Customers can still sign in with either their username or their email address, whatever you name the field.
Does this change the lost password page itself?
No. Lost Password Text only changes the wording of the link on your login page. The page it opens is your WooCommerce lost password page, and its text stays the same.
Can I show different text for different languages?
No. Each setting holds one piece of text, and every visitor sees it. The plugin saves the default text into your settings when you activate it, so it does not change with the site language afterwards. To get the translated default back, clear the field and save.
Where do I change the logo or the promo text?
Add your logo under Logo & Heading on the Design tab. Promo text lives on the Content tab. For the promo panel, see how to set up the promo panel. For template choices, see how to choose a login page template.
