Getting started with Store Exporter Deluxe

Your store data lives in WooCommerce, but getting it out is another matter. The built-in export tool handles products and not much else, so the moment you need orders for your accountant, customers for a mailing list, or subscriptions for a report, you’re stuck copying rows by hand or asking a developer.

Store Exporter Deluxe fixes that. It exports orders, products, customers, users, coupons, subscriptions, and plenty more, in the format your spreadsheet or accounting tool expects.

This guide covers installing the plugin, activating your license, finding your way around the admin screen, and running your first export.

Prerequisites

RequirementDetails
WordPressVersion 5.4 or later
WooCommerceVersion 5.0 or later, and active. Store Exporter Deluxe reads your WooCommerce data, so it can’t run without it
PHPVersion 7.4 or later. On anything older, the plugin stops loading and shows a notice
LicenseA valid license key and the email address you used at purchase
Account accessAn Administrator account to install the plugin and activate the license. After that, an Administrator or Shop Manager can open Store Export and run exports

If WooCommerce isn’t active, Store Exporter Deluxe shows a dependency notice instead of loading. Install and activate WooCommerce first.

Step 1: Install and activate the plugin

Install Store Exporter Deluxe the same way you would any other WordPress plugin, through Plugins → Add Plugin and then uploading the plugin ZIP file. In your plugins list, it appears as Store Exporter Deluxe for WooCommerce.

If you already run the free Store Exporter for WooCommerce, deactivate it before you activate Store Exporter Deluxe. Running both at once causes conflicts, so when the free plugin is still active, Deluxe shows a notice asking you to deactivate it and then switches itself back off. Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins, deactivate Store Exporter for WooCommerce, then activate Store Exporter Deluxe.

Once activated, a Store Export item appears under the WooCommerce menu in your admin sidebar. There’s no separate top-level menu to look for.

Step 2: Activate your license

Activating your license unlocks plugin updates and support. Go to WooCommerce → Store Export, then open License in the sidebar.

  1. Enter your key in the License Key field.
  2. Enter the address you purchased with in the Activation Email field.
  3. Click Activate License.

Your license key lives in your account at visser.com.au/my-account. For detailed instructions, see How do I retrieve my license keys?.

Once it goes through, the License Overview card at the top of the screen shows Active, and updates and support switch to Available. The Activate License button is replaced by Deactivate License, so you’ll only ever see one of the two.

Step 3: Find your way around

Store Export is a single screen with its own sidebar. Here’s what each section does.

SectionWhat it’s for

If you do not see Audit Log, check Enable Audit Log in Settings → Audit Log. Archives and Scheduled Exports can also be hidden from the sidebar through Settings → Advanced, so if either is missing, check there first.

Step 4: Run your first export

Click Quick Export at the top of the sidebar. The screen opens as an accordion with three steps: Select Export Type, Export Fields, and Export Options. A fourth step, Filters & Sorting, slots in between fields and options once you choose a type that supports filtering, and the numbering shifts to match.

Work through the steps in order.

  1. Select Export Type: pick what you want to export from the grid of tiles. Each tile shows how many records it holds, and tiles with no records are disabled. If you’ve just added data and the count looks wrong, click Refresh to recount.
  2. Export Fields: choose the columns to include. Drag fields to reorder them, and the export file follows that same order. Reset to Default puts the standard selection back if you overdo it.
  3. Filters & Sorting: narrow down what gets exported and set the order of the rows. This step appears only for export types that support filtering, so you may go straight from fields to options.
  4. Export Options: set your File Format, then leave the rest alone for a first run. The Batch Settings here control how many records are processed at a time, and the defaults work for most stores.

Quick Export writes CSV, TSV, XLS, XLSX, and XML. CSV is selected for you already, and it’s the safest choice if you’re opening the file in a spreadsheet or importing it somewhere else.

Scheduling an export later adds two more format options, RSS 2.0 and JSON, on top of these five. See How to schedule exports.

When you’re ready, click Run Export. A progress window opens while the export runs. Once it finishes, click Download File to save it, then click Done.

Download the file before closing that window. Unless you turn on Archives first, this is your only chance to get it. See the next section.

Keep a copy of every export

Archives are switched off by default, which catches out a lot of new users. With archives off, an export exists only as the file you download at the end of the run. Close the window without downloading, and it’s gone, and you have to run the export again.

To change that, go to Settings, open the Archives category, and turn on Enable Archives. From then on, a copy of each export is saved, and you can re-download past runs from the Archives section any time.

The on-screen description mentions your WordPress Media library, which is worth unpacking. Each archived export is listed in your Media library as a private item, so it stays out of public listings. The file itself is stored outside your uploads folder, in the plugin’s own directory.

Archived exports are saved on your server, under wp-content/store-exporter/, in a folder with a randomised, per-site name that’s set once and never exposed. That directory is also locked to owner-only access (file permissions 0700), and the raw archive file URL is never emitted anywhere in the admin UI or the REST API, so there’s no link for anyone to find in the first place. The plugin drops deny rules into the folder for Apache and IIS as an added layer. Nginx, Caddy, and OpenLiteSpeed don’t honor those deny rules, so if you’re on one of them and exporting customer or order data, ask your host to add an equivalent block on that directory.

Troubleshooting

I can’t find the Store Export menu
Look under WooCommerce → Store Export. Then go to Plugins → Installed Plugins and confirm WooCommerce shows as Active. Store Exporter Deluxe adds its menu under WooCommerce only when WooCommerce is active, and never as a top-level menu of its own. Also check your account role. The menu needs the WooCommerce reports capability, which Administrator and Shop Manager both have, so it stays hidden from any role without it.
An export type I need is greyed out
A tile is disabled when that export type has no records. Every built-in export type always shows in the grid, so a type that needs another plugin, for example Bookings or Tickets, stays greyed out until that plugin is active and has records. Add a record of that type, then click Refresh on the Select Export Type step to recount.
My export fails partway through or produces an empty file
This is almost always your server running out of memory or time, not the export itself. Start by lowering the Batch Size in the Export Options step of Quick Export, so fewer records are processed at once. Then check Settings → General → Script Timeout. It ships as Unlimited, so if it’s been changed to 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour, a long export halts the moment that limit is reached. If your PHP memory limit is under 64MB, the plugin warns you, and that’s worth raising with your host.
I downloaded a file, and now I can’t find it again
Check your browser’s downloads folder first. If it isn’t there, and you hadn’t enabled archives at the time, the file no longer exists, and you’ll need to run the export again. Turn on Enable Archives so it doesn’t happen twice.

What’s next

Now that your first export has run, these articles cover the next things most new users need.

FAQ

Do I still need the free Store Exporter plugin?
No. Store Exporter Deluxe replaces it completely. Deactivate the free plugin first, though, because Deluxe won’t stay active while the free version is running.
Which file formats can I export to?
Quick Export writes CSV, TSV, XLS, XLSX, and XML. Pick CSV unless you specifically need one of the others. Scheduled exports add RSS 2.0 and JSON.
Can I move my license to a different site?
Yes. Open the License screen on the site you’re leaving and click Deactivate License, then activate the same key on the new site.
Can exports be emailed to me instead of downloaded?
Yes, but not from Quick Export. Email delivery is part of scheduled exports. For detailed instructions, see How to schedule exports.
