I know you are very busy, and I have not yet posted my specific problem, but what I am seeing in regard to unanswered support queries for the product importer is leaving me a little cold.
I purchased this software many months ago, and despite all the updates, *still* cannot get it to effectively import the categories in my supplier’s CSV file.
I would like you to contact me directly, as I have a developer standing by who is able to make the changes needed to the plugin in order to get it to work for me.
I do believe you have put a lot of hard work into this plugin, and that it is *almost there*…but unfortunately, that’s not good enough for people who have spent money (or their client’s money) for the plugins.
Please Michael, take a break from what you’re doing and assist those who have paid good money…especially poor bbruno1973December 12, 2010 at 10:06 am #6640
Hi alfrescoid, I’m working to resolve the current category-linking issue affecting Product Importer Deluxe, I’ll update this topic as I make progress 🙂December 16, 2010 at 1:48 pm #6641
Hi guys, please update to the latest Plugin release; 2.6.5, this has been resolved and I’m working to introduce support for more than 3 levels deep Product Category linking (e.g. Clothes>Men>Casual) works but doesn’t drill down any further than 3 levels at this time; I’m working to change this to a recursive model.December 17, 2010 at 3:54 pm #6642
It seems that the category importer is only half fixed… It seems now the permalinks are actually incorrect.
Importing the categories works as expected however what is created for the permalinks that you see in the URL has the wrong text.December 18, 2010 at 9:19 am #6643
Hi alfrescoid, just to confirm I’m now looking at the Product Categories Importer. The last Plugin update resolved the category-linking issue affecting the Product importer, can you please send me a sample CSV file so I can reproduce your Category creation issue. Thanks alfrescoid. 🙂December 18, 2010 at 9:23 pm #6644
How would you like me to send the sample CVS file?
Thanks!December 18, 2010 at 10:15 pm #6645
On a further note, I would also recommend testing WP Ecommerce *and* your categories/products importer plugins against PHP 5.3 and MySQL with strict mode turned on.
I failed to even get the importer to work on my development environment, and by enabling WordPress database errors to show I uncovered the reason:
WordPress database error: [Field ‘description’ doesn’t have a default value]
My MySQL database runs in strict mode, and you can’t be lazy!!! (Seems like a WP e-Commerce issue this one, though)
Just a side note…

Hi alfrescoid, I’ll pass this onto Instinct, I know the next release of WP e-Commerce has been through more extensive testing and support for strict modes. Thanks for the tip 🙂December 21, 2010 at 10:25 am #6647
Michael, my programmer sent you an email yesterday highlighting the problem with certain sub-categories becoming mis-linked.
Eg on the website I sent you, the permalink names are fine for categories and sub-categories. However, the next categoriy deep (sub-sub-cayegories) is where the links start to become mis-named – just wanted to clarify that.
Also, as you’ll see from the source CSV that I sent you, sub-sub-categories are being inserted under categories where they don’t belong.
You can understand the mounting frustration I am beginning to feel over this – project delayed for months and potential loss of income to name but two.
I do have a very good programmer available to me, and am happy to make his skills available to get this sorted once and for all…just say the word. I have asked him to look at your code, but to reverse-engineer and patch/fix it just too time-consuming (time = money!).
Judging from other forum posters here, there are clearly quite a few having issues (and even f they’re in the minority, they still deserve to have software that performs the function is was stated to perform).
Help us to help you get this right please, Michael…once it is working, we want to roll out several other sites, and not to mention being able to sell more copies of the Importer to clients hungry for a WordPress-based store…
*Am officially begging now*

Hi alfrescoid, I’m doing the same as what I’ve done to Product Importer Deluxe by first commenting out the old Category importing process and improving the sub-Category detection. I’m confident it’s the same – if not very similiar – issue that was affecting the Product importer.
This issue is at the top of my priorities and with the help of the CSV file you’ve provided I’m working to resolve this issue, unfortunately it’s taking time, and I’m doing my best to keep all involved in the loop. I’ll post an update later this afternoon with my progress.December 23, 2010 at 1:30 pm #6649
Know it’s terribly close to Xmas…any progress with the Category Importer?January 1, 2011 at 1:16 am #6650RobertKParticipant
There nothing wrong with not responding to the needs of your customer 😉 but you need to tell us your plan.
Ignoring us is not an option, the other option is to give us all a refund and when the bug is fixed email us all, I for one would be happy to purchase again.
You are not being fair to us, leading us on and on is not good business practice. Most of us had hinged all our plans based on your “word” that “the fix is coming”!!!January 2, 2011 at 3:16 pm #6651
Hi RobertK, both Product Categories Importer and Product Importer Deluxe now have the category-linking issue resolved. I’m investigating a permalink-related issue affecting Products in some situations and will update this topic as I know more.January 4, 2011 at 9:45 am #6652taprootitParticipant
I am having the same issue…January 4, 2011 at 9:46 am #6653taprootitParticipant
What permalink structure do you suggest? I.E. What works?
