Dell 22 Inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor

Dell 22? Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor (E228WFP) It’s a big bad screen and I love its place on my desk but that upping that contrast ratio to higher than ‘is everything covered in dust?’ would make this beast that extra bit sweeter.

So here’s the quiz, am I the only thinking the contrast ratio on the massive Dell 22″ Wide-screen Flat Panel screen sucks… it’s freakin’ grey! What does the Ultrasharp 22″ look side-by-side? If it counts I have a Dell 20″ Ultrasharp Widescreen Flat Panel sitting alongside the new 22″ and it looks fantastic, I’m referring to the Ultrasharp 20″ not the beast, so what else is holding back Goliath?

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe and Albatron 7600 GT bug

Albatron nVidia GeForce 7600 GTASUS M2N-SLI DeluxeDo not pair an ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with an Albatron 7600 GT 256MB SLI graphics card!

After a month of investigating the issue of intense game and 3D video freezes resulting in system crashes or what is now knowns as the “Benny Hill” effect I finally have a resolution, return the Albatron 7600 GT! I had applied every known fix available including dropping the PEG Link level to Slower, multiple fresh Windows installs, beta drivers recommended by ASUS even non-official nVidia Forceware drivers to no success. In a last ditch effort I handed the system over to the uMart Online workshop, their solution was to install an ASUS 7900 GS 256MB SLI graphics card for the price difference between the two.

I’ve just finished Half Life 2 without glitches, crashing or stutters! Now I’m looking for a challenge; Prey.

Thanks uMart Online!

Logitech revolutionary mouse?

You mean that’s not just hyped advertising…

PlanetX64 have put together a great review of the Logitech MX Revolution.

A increased thumb recess with a task rocker, a fly wheel control, the best thing though is a dictionary lookup on text hightlight button which will no doubt be hacked for games in no time (eg. weapon reload for FPS!)… sweet.

Building your own computer and GAME FREEZES!

I put together my computer this weekend, that was exciting enough, the bonus being it worked, first time… I must have done something wrong. Nothing is this easy.

The specs for my machine are:

  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (2.0Ghz dual core)
  • 1GB Corsair DDR2 800Mhz RAM
  • 250GB + 350GB SATA2 7200rpm HDD (chained)
  • CoolerMaster iGreen PSU 600W
  • ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
  • NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT (256MB)
  • Dell 2007FP 20″ UltraSharp Widescreen (1680×1050 native)

In time I’ll break some of the parts out and build a server and personal machine, dropping back to a single 3.0Ghz+ CPU for gaming.
I did some research into why games were freezing, a common issue being inadequate cooling. I’ll add an additional rear-fan (Gigabyte DC brushless fan 1800rpm), upgrade the provided heat-sink (AMD) as well as reapply thermal paste. I hope this will fix it.

Woot, new PC!
